If you want to display your latest Instagram photos or a link with your follower count on the sidebar on your blog, you will need to fill in your Access Token. Sounds scary, but don’t worry – we will guide you through the whole process step by step.

Register Instagram Developer account.

Go to https://www.instagram.com/developer/ and create an account. Just use your regular Instagram account to do so.

Creating an Instagram application.

  1. After successfully logging in to Instagram Developer, click on “Register Your Application”
  2. On the “Manage Clients” page, click on “Create a New Client”
  3. Fill in the mandatory fields (all except Company Name, Privacy Policy URL and Contact email). The Website URL and Valid redirect URI can be found on your blog – go to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Theme Settings in the Connections tab.
  4. After successfully creating your app, you will need to change some of its settings.
  5. Click on “Edit”, then go to the “Security” tab and uncheck “Disable implicit OAuth”
  6. If you also publish non-square photos or videos on your Instagram, open the “Migrations” tab and check “Non square media”. That way, your photos will always look good on your blog.

Connecting your Instagram app to your blog.

  1. Go to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Theme Settings
  2. Fill in the Client ID field. You will find the ID in the Instagram app created beforehand – make sure to enter it correctly
  3. Click on “Save Changes”
  4. A “Get my Access Token” button will appear. Click on it.
  5. You may need to log in to Instagram – do so if it is the case.
  6. Next, you will see a page asking you to confirm the authorization. Click “Authorize”
  7. You will be redirected back to the Theme Settings screen. There should be an input containing your Access Token.
  8. Click on “Save Changes” to save the changes.
  9. A Status informing whether the connection is working correctly will appear. If it says “Connected”, that means everything went well. Your blog is now integrated with Instagram!
